This article provides an overview of the evolution of debug and trace functionality in ARM processors up to Serial-Wire Debug (SWD) and Serial-Wire Viewer (SWV) support on Cortex-M3.

The article then shows how the ARM Microcontroller Development Kit (MDK) provides a number of debug windows to display in a user friendly manner information gathered via the Serial-Wire Viewer interface.
