ULINK: RECOVER STR71X WHEN JTAG DISABLE

Information in this article applies to:

  • Keil Development Tools for ARM
  • ULINK USB-JTAG Adapter
  • ULINK2 USB-JTAG Adapter

QUESTION

I cannot connect to the STR71x device on my board. Instead I get messages like:

Couldn't stop ARM device

What can cause this on the STR7 STMicroelectronic Device?

ANSWER

The JTAG interface might be disabled by random CPU instructions or by the power-down mode of the device. In this case you might enable the on-chip boot loader, so that the STR71x device can execute a valid program.

The on-chip boot loader is enabled by the following settings on the configuration pins:

  • BOOTEN = 1 enable boot pins
  • BOOT1 = 0, BOOT0 = 1 enable boot loader
